“The Experiences and needs of patients should form an integral part of research”
On 25 March 2015, nearly 50 representatives of patient organisations, clinical research institutions, the pharmaceutical industry and authorities met in Lausanne to exchange their personal experiences and views of patient involvement in medicines research and development. This event provided an ideal opportunity for potential stakeholders to learn about the EUPATI project and ongoing activities.
The aim of the meeting in Lausanne was to assess interest among organisations and individuals and to lay the ground for the creation of a future EUPATI National Platform in Switzerland. The National Platform will assist EUPATI to widely disseminate its educational material and support local patient communities to acquire the knowledge they need to engage in the medicines research and development processes.
During the meeting, patients gave moving presentations about their personal stories and their patient empowerment journeys. Representatives from academia, the pharmaceutical industry and the local ethics commission explained their work and explored the possibilities for facilitating greater patient involvement in Swiss medicines research and associated processes in the future.
